Death of the Imagination

In the early 90's it was a fantasy to broadcast these tapes over some clear channel radio station such as in Mexico City to the whole of the world in the middle of the night. That explains the allusions to people driving in their cars, an imprisoned audience with nothing better to do. Now they come day and night, whenever you like! Cutting Edge lay in a cardboard box along with the Bishop College World Lit Tapes and several dozen children's stories until this year when I heard the Quantum Prufrock tape broadcast in a dream and dug it out, along with the others. Uploading that tape to Youtube, the sound board at AERFilms put The Cutting Edge also into order so here it is. The singles on SoundCloud are taken from this and from another, Take Two. "Yep, is anybody listening/ you've come to it / huh / The vaporous battle against wind and dust /  hello / That's right / welcome to the edge / the edge of what / the edge of your sleep / There's no point in sittin' there / waitin' for it to happen /  what you gota do is reach up, reach out, grab ahold of it /uh huh huh / That's right / I don't know why you can't sleep /  but since you're awake / welcome you to the cutting edge, that's right, the cutting edge / the place where something's gonna happen but nobody knows what it will be. least of all me Wake up that thing that has died." The aborted baby at 8.23 is a symbol of this death.
